Daniel J. Newton

CP, President, Certified Prosthetist/Orthotist

Daniel J. Newton, CP was born in San Gabriel, CA and grew up dreaming of becoming an artist.  For 41 years as President and CEO of Achilles Prosthetics and Orthotics, Inc. he has found an outlet for his artistic abilities providing high quality and compassionate medical care to patients in need of prosthetic and orthotic services.

In 1978, Daniel and David A. Wegner, CPO, co-founded Achilles Prosthetics and Orthotics, Inc. in Bakersfield, CA.  Two years later they expanded the business by starting a second office in Santa Maria, CA to serve the orthopedic needs of the central California coast.  Today, Achilles has added two additional clinics in Santa Barbara and Templeton, and now serves the central coast from Paso Robles to Ventura.

Daniel attended UCLA, earning a bachelor’s degree in Zoology in 1975.  Inspired by a college friends’ wife, who was an AK amputee, he applied and was accepted to attend the prosthetics/orthotics program at the UCLA School of Medicine.  In 1978, Daniel was certified in prosthetics by the American Board for Certification in Orthotics, Prosthetics, and Pedorthics.  Daniel is a member of ABC, AOPA, and Fellow of the American Academy of Prosthetics and Orthotics.

In addition to overseeing the strategic planning and daily operations for all of the Achilles clinics, Daniels love for children has drawn him to concentrate on pediatric orthotics, specifically for children suffering from cerebral palsy.  “It’s a very humbling experience working with disabled children, but at the same time, I can think of no greater reward than helping a child gain their mobility.”

Daniel, and his wife of 38 years, Sheri like the spend as much time as they can with their 3 beautiful grandchildren and on weekend art excursions to Lake Tahoe.

There’s nothing better than going to work every day knowing I’m going to make a difference in someone’s life.”

Donald F. Newton

CPO, Certified Prosthetist/Orthotist

Growing up in Hacienda Heights, CA. Donald came to an early realization that he wanted to be involved in the prosthetics and orthotics field. At the age of eleven, Donald saw prosthetic legs and arms at his brother’s prosthetic work and knew he wanted to do that for the rest of his life. Donald always loved to work with his hands. Throughout his high school and college years, Donald found a love of working in woodshop and learned to build custom cabinetry which he still does today. Donald later went on to attend Dominguez Hills for graduate school earning a degree as a certified prosthetist and orthotist. “I love building custom solutions to help people ambulate and live life to the best of their ability,” says Donald. “Observing a patient roll into the office in a wheelchair and walk out with a prosthetic leg an hour later never gets old. Helping patients to regain the ability to walk again is rewarding and these patients are a huge inspiration for me.”

Keith Severson

Director, Patient Care and Services

Keith comes to the prosthetic and orthotic industry from a completely different angle. In 2008, Keith was involved in a freak accident which damaged his right foot to the point where he chose amputation over a prescribed two-year foot salvage program with an unsure prognosis. He had been working as the part-owner and VP of Sales and Marketing for imported products for the electronics and retail industries. “As a new amputee I was surprised at how people viewed my new “disability” and it drove me to prove many people wrong. Being an advocate for people who have physical challenges became a new focus for me” stated Keith.

Two years after his amputation Keith invented several new mobility products and earned two utility patents for them. As an active amputee, Keith is often called on to test prosthetic feet and accessories for several prosthetic manufactures providing feedback before the product is released to the public. Keith began working for Achilles in 2015 to assist them in the growth of the company as well as being an advocate for those who struggle with mobility issues. He is a certified amputee peer counselor with the Amputee Coalition of America and enjoys visiting with new amputees and their families.

When not at Achilles you may find Keith playing ice or roller hockey, volleyball, or at the beach and enjoying his time with his family and pup Roxy.
