Bakersfield Staff

Daniel J. Newton, CP, President   Certified Prosthetist/Orthotist

For 36 years, Daniel J. Newton has served the communities of Bakersfield and the Central Coast by providing high-quality and compassionate medical care to patients in need of prosthetic and orthotic services.

In 1978, Daniel and David A. Wegner, CPO, co-founded Achilles Prosthetics and Orthotics, Inc., in Bakersfield, CA. Two years later they expanded the business by starting a second office in Santa Maria to serve the orthopedic needs of the Central California Coast. In 2008, the pair continued to develop the reach of Achilles, opening a third office in San Luis Obispo.

Daniel attended UCLA, earning a bachelor’s degree in zoology in 1975. Immediately after graduation, he enrolled in the prosthetics and orthotics program at the UCLA School of Medicine. In 1978, he was certified by the American Board for Certification in Orthotics, Prosthetics and Pedorthics. Most recently, Daniel became a Fellow of the American Academy of Prosthetics and Orthotics.

In addition to overseeing the strategic planning and daily operations for all of the Achilles clinics, Daniel’s love for children has drawn him to concentrate on pediatric orthotics, specifically for children suffering from cerebral palsy."It's a very humbling experience working with disabled children, but at the same time, I can think of no greater reward than helping a child gain their mobility."

Logan Newton, CP/ BOCO, Vice President   Certified Prosthetist/Orthotist

Logan Newton has worked at Achilles Prosthetics and Orthotics , Inc. since 2004. He is a second-generation prosthetist, following in the footsteps of his father Daniel Newton, CP, and uncle Donald Newton, CPO, since childhood.

Logan started his professional career as an O&P technician, focusing on fabricating and constructing above-knee, below-knee and upper-extremity prosthetics. After deciding to pursue the career path, he studied prosthetics and orthotics at California State University Dominguez Hills. In 2007, he received his bachelor’s degree in health science with honors, an emphasis in prosthetics, and a certificate in orthotics. After completing formal education, he apprenticed under David A. Wegner, furthering his expertise in prosthetic care.

Logan's mission is to treat each patient as an individual, helping them achieve their maximum potential through the use of the latest technology and techniques. His commitment to care for his patients has been forged by his personal experiences and values. “When I began thinking about what I wanted to do for a career, I knew I wanted to do something that blended artistic and technical proficiency with the chance to help people in need,” Logan said. “Our field is truly amazing. I mean, I have the ability to build an artificial limb that gives someone the chance to walk again or a brace that helps relieves pain. There’s nothing better than going to work every day knowing I’m going to make a difference in someone’s life.”

Outside of work, Logan is active in the Bakersfield community. For the past four years, he has organized a Tuesday night homeless ministry in conjunction with the Bakersfield Rescue Mission.

"I consider myself a perpetual student, constantly learning and taking in information. Through my career, I will strive for more complete patient care, and I will hold myself to the highest standards in our industry."

Nathan attended California State University Bakersfield to receive his bachelor's degree in Liberal Studies, with a concentration in liberal science. He decided to pursue a career in science, and so he attended graduate school at California State University Dominguez Hills, and he graduated in 2012.

In his spare time, Nathan's favorite hobby is road cycling. He also has encouraged a men's bible study group to go to the rescue mission to lend helping hands on Tuesday nights.

 Rachel Quezada, CMF   Office Manager

In 1997, Rachel Quezada joined Achilles Prosthetics and Orthotics as a receptionist and eventually progressed to office manager. Rachel’s enthusiasm for the medical field began when she was just 15 through a student program provided by her high school. As she’s advanced in her career, her passion to serve others has continued to grow.

Rachel works closely with patients and their families to assist them in the navigation and understanding of insurance coverage for their specific treatment. Her patient and reassuring manner has served as a calming presence for her patients and their loved ones alike.

Although she was born in Los Angeles, Rachel has lived most of her life in Bakersfield. Outside of work, Rachel loves sports, reading, painting, and the company of her family and friends.

 David Wegner, CPO   Certified Prosthetist/Orthotist

David A. Wegner is the co-founder of Achilles Prosthetics and Orthotics, Inc. An American Board for Certification certified Orthotist and Prosthetist, David completed his education at UCLA in 1977 and has more than 40 years of experience in the field – most of which has been at Achilles.

While serving in the Vietnam War, Wegner sustained a severe combat injury. Through that experience, he decided to pursue a career in the field of orthotics and prosthetics. “My injury in Vietnam really was the catalyst in leading me to get into the field of orthotics and prosthetics. After my injury, I relied a great deal on those around me. Every day, I live for the opportunity to help others in need.”
